The World from a Jewish Perspective XXVII
by Shlomo Fleischmann

Thank you Edith,

After the close presidential election, there was doubt left whether President Bush will be able to be the needed strong leader, or not. After one year in office under very severe circumstances, with approval rating of over 80%, there is no doubt left. We are happy to know that our country is in good hands. Our President is strong, but it is not the strength alone but his clear assessment of the situation. The President recognizes the evil, its dangers and the fact that if the civilized word as we know it should survive, total force will be needed. Not the usual discussions, committees, payoffs and compromises can do it, only power.

The fact that the world turned into this turmoil did not come about because we were bad, but because we were complacent and soft. When the Shah of Iran struggled against the forefathers of today's terrorists, tears were shed for these fanatics until Ayatola Khoumany took power and saved the world from injustice. But he also invigorated the high spirit of Islam by his own interpretations of its Holy Book. He proved his divine power by daring to attack even the Great Satan who stood lame and impotent and asked submissive for the release of its hostages. Khoumany's followeres got drunk on their power and beliefs. They multiplied in droves and the message went over their borders into many countries. Some of his disciples succeeded greatly on their own right in their divine activities, such as Bin Laden.

But they succeeded also quite nicely in their holy work against the little Satan, Israel. The great person in this devoted struggle is named Yasser Arafat. He created a new art of passion to his God, insomuch, that people are willing to sacrifice their life without any hesitation for the privilege to go to heaven. In his last speech in Ramallah, Arafat called for "millions of martyrs to march on Jerusalem." And then he prayed: "Please God, give me the honor of being one of the holy martyrs."

As we give Arafat so much credit, as his prayer was not intended to get into heaven for the 72 virgins - as the rest of the martyrs expect - so his holy goal to become a shihad- a martyr, was just for the killing of another Jew.

The world had let Ayatolah Khoumany out of the "Jeany-bottle," and President Bush is trying to put it all back. He knows that it will take a long time and he knows that it will not be easy. And we all should know it too. For too long we lived in a paradise of fools, believing that with our culture of learning and teaching, giving and taking we will be understood and appreciated.

The world had downplayed the danger and did not take lesson from the only place, were the "Jeaney- based" fanaticism was running wild since half a century - in Israel.

Today the alleged great and the small Satan, stand shoulder to shoulder in their fight against the true Satans. The accomplishment of President Bush was to recognize the problems in its whole, in its severity, its danger and its injustice.

The right diagnosis is the first step to a cure. We all should know the truth, fight for it and believe in God.
