Radio EditorialThe World from a Jewish Perspective XI Thank you Edith, There are many conflicts, struggles and incidences of bloodshed in the world today. There is Pakistan and India, China and Taiwan, Columbia, Indonesia, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and not to speak about Africa and many other countries where killing of people belongs to the daily routine. But have you heard that world-opinion makes it its business to give advice and criticism to this or that party, watches every step and declares daily judgements as "mothers of all judgements??" Of course not. But listen to world opinion and advice given to Israel! A steady stream of criticism and finger pointing is aimed at the Jews. Shame on Israel, shame on the Jews. How does Israel dare to respond to 70 years of war and another 10 month of Intifada? It could be such a wonderful peace, if Israel would just cave in. But Israel is intransigent. Russia just complained about Israel's harsh actions. In Chechnya - they made it so "un-harsh." Didn't they?... The European Unity chastises Israel for its aggression against the Arabs. How dare Europe, the hot house of anti-Semitism, perpetrators and willing accomplices of the Holocaust to preach to Israel morals? And even the White House finds Israel's defensive steps as provocative, excessive and counterproductive. Israel's actions harm the chances of peace talks. What peace talks? I think all these good advisors should rather tell Israel explicitly what kind of "peace talk," they have in mind. Maybe the kind of Yitzhak Rabin's, who brought the Palestinians Arabs back from Tunis and was even willing to take some terror in stride, for the price of achieving peace. The terror did come, but where is the peace? Or like Barak, who offered more than anyone expected and was awarded with war. What is it that these critics really want? Are they too shy or to hypocritical to say the truth? Why not saying their wish that Israel should stop to defend itself in any way? Every educator knows that when a child throws a tamper-tantrum, it has to be discouraged and not encouraged. The same goes for terrorists - except when their victims are Jews. After 10 months of violent Intifada, the Security Council of the United Nations is going finally to intervene. The topic is Israel's aggression against buildings. Again- Jewish life is of no importance, but protective means against buildings are scrutinized and you may bet on the judgement in advance. Of course - all these good advises for Israel by several government officials or members of the Media are dressed not only in "holier than thou," tones, but pretend to be means for achieving peace. In reality they lay a fundation for a world-wide catastrophe. All these remarks make terrorism 'chiqu." We heard that in many Arab countries youngsters are made excited to become martyrs. They are lining up and are dying to die. As Israel's intelligence reports, the danger lies with the Arab governments, because they are pressed to heed these fanatics out of fear for their own security. Should Arafat succeed in internationalizing the conflict, a major regional war may follow and nobody knows if the region will be the border. After the Holocaust, the world was astounded and surprised and asked: "How could this have happened?" Countless studies were made, lectures held, teachings went on from kindergarten to University. And I tell to you our listeners - nothing was learned! We know very well what happened, but we have learned nothing to prevent it. Before our eyes we see 'Fuehrer' Arafat and how he creates fanaticism amongst his people. He needs urgently the the 'settlements," as Hitler needed the Sudetenland. The peace-hungry world Believed Hitler then, as they believe Arafat now. They encouraged Hitler then and do the same to Arafat. Hitler could have been stopped easily then, as Arafat could be easily stopped now. The good message has to be: Stop killing! For the Arab's intentions for a final solution and negotiation tactics, the existence of a Jewish state is not an option. And Israel is not willing to negotiate about the way of its annihilation. It could be shorter than we think that chemical and atomic missiles will ignite a fire, which can dwarf the consequences of World War I and II together. I know that dooms-day prophets are not in vogue. I don't pretend to be a Churchill, but maybe it is time for all of us to see reality before the catastrophe happens.
