The World from a Jewish Perspective VII
by Shlomo Fleischmann

Thank you Edith,

As a commentator, I am obliged to discuss current political events. But I feel rather like a theater critique, speaking about the longest lasting show ever performed. The name of the show is "Dance Macabre," - which means, "Dance of death." The Chief choreographer is Yasser Arafat and in the first row of the audience we see his old devoted fans that applaud enthusiastically to every deadly "Salto Mortale." As in every show, there are people, who fight their boredom with prickling tension. They lend their sympathy for this or that gladiator and root for the subject of their favor with vigor. In the modern life of "inter-action," they even participate by pointing finger up or down. As part of the games' important 'public opinion,' one can really take part in deciding - who should live and who should die.

In spite of the long run of the show, the arena is always filled. The price is high, but for such entertainment one is willing to pay the price. Such a variety production can obviously not be created on a low budget. Everyone admits that the price for oil is high and the price for Jewish blood is cheap.

When the curtain went up this week, we see his excellency, foreign Minister of Denmark Mr.Ulrik Federspiel painfully reading the report of the suicide-bombing at the Tel-Aviv discotheque. 22 killed, 102 injured. With broken voice he declares; "This is further proof of Israel's fault!" As the Danish Prince in Hamlet, he dramatically asks: "To live - or not to live?" But it is not his life he contemplates about - it is just about Jewish life.

In the official protest note by the Government of Israel he was asked: Where were his or the Europeans concern in 1948, 1956, 1967,1973 and in the countless terrorist acts in-between?

Israel has accepted the Mitchell report, which requests, that after a period of non-violence, a 60 day test time should give proof of both sides intention to stop violence. Afterwards, mutual confidence should be built up followed by re-newel of negotiations.

In this week's segment of the show, Israel is pressed to start negotiations even before the Arabs stop attacking. But again - "hardliner," Sharon did not accept it.

It must have been the best-kept secret in history, that Israel has agreed to conditions of peace, negotiated and offered magnanimous terms of peace. Israel has paid the price as agreed upon at the Oslo agreement and was murderously betrayed. A seemingly imbecilic brain does not understand, that the Arab demands for talk under fire, are nothing else than a declaration of victory. Israel goes on their knees.

Those imbecilic brains also seem not to understand, that by helping the Arabs in this victory, it gives them assurance that their way of operation works and only strengthens their determination to fight for the destruction of Israel. By lending this kind of assistance to the Arabs, the result will not be peace, but the worst of wars.

Jewish children all over the world enjoy now their well earned vacation in Summer schools. They play and learn Jewish values and justice. In the official Palestinian news, animated pictures are shown from Arab children in heaven. Surrounded by angels they call other children to become martyrs and join them.

Those people or powers, who want achieve peace should stop pressing Israel. They should rather press the Arabs by proclaiming loud and clear, that Israel is here to stay and the world will stop assisting the murderers. Only when this will be understood, there may be peace for Jews, Arabs and a great catastrophe would be prevented.

I am Shlomo Fleischmann
