Radio EditorialCought in the Own Web During these last days of Clinton's Presidency, many eyes are focused on chairman Arafat and are waiting with excitement for his answer? Will he be willing to make peace with Israel or not? The experts claim that he will have to! Not out of love, but out of necessity. They think, that with Intifada and Guerilla tactics, he can make life in Israel miserable, but not win the war. His efforts to bring the Arab states, to an all out war against Israel, are a possibility but at this stage unlikely. His economy is crumbling. The unemployed masses are frustrated, and many of his people begin to grumble and would like to live in peace. Arafat himself would already like to have his title changed from Chairman - to President. But he can not. He is trapped by his own words and false promises. The avaricious illusions and promises of Ali Baba kind fantasies plagued the Arabs in Palestine since the beginning of the problem. The call to the Arabs, their own brethren, to leave the country, was an offspring of such an illusion. By leaving the country they wanted to achieve the freedom, to bomb Israel to death and afterwards to return and take all of it. The 650,000 refugees were put into camps and promised to take the land after the war. They promised and promised until the Arab leadership believed their own word and promises. Though the voluntarily hostile refugees were replaced by forcefully expulsed Jews from Arab countries at the same number, the Palestinians demand today the legal right of return of 4 million refugees. In other words this means, that by not being able to destroy Israel from outside, they would do it from inside. This is the final Arab goal and this what they promised to their own victims since decades. The masses believed in the inflammatory calls for Jihad, Holy War and promises for a final victory. Unfortunately, an irresponsible and manipulative leadership can make their subjects as prisoners of their false promises and hopes. It took Nazi Germany 5 years, to re-educate a country of civilized people and turn them to criminals. 6 decades of spraying hate against Jews by the Arabs can not be changed in a historic short time. If the 8 years, of the so called "peace process," would have been used by the Arabs to preach reason and tolerance, there may have been a chance for peace. But instead, they taught hate - beginning from kinder garden. The results can be seen today clearly. As the situation is now, there is not the slightest chance. Any forcefully signed agreement, without having the population educated as well, would be a waste of paper. To put trust in such an agreement would be dangerous, as these illusions would only weaken many of our many optimists. Optimism is wonderful, but only, if the proper force stands behind it.
