A New Kind of War
by Shlomo Fleischmann

The USA, leader of the world in Democracy and technique, gave an important lesson, by comparing the values between machine versus men. Who counts better? The brain or the computer? The obvious next question would be, who thinks better? And then: "who leads better?" A computer can surely make decisions, based on more facts than any human can. So why not elect a computer as president? We are close to it. But in the USA, where the differences between the parties are few and their numbers so equally split, it is not necessary. With all the posturing and promising, no candidate can actually deliver, without rocking the balance of our controlling system. And there will be no shots, no rocks and not even fists. Just let the old system do its thing. Moses did it and with God's help, so will we.

Of course - new discoveries and knowledge have to be taken in consideration. Some of them are good, some bad. As an example -the concept of warfare was totally changed through nuclear weapons, which, because of the horror of mutual destruction - forced the adversaries to find peaceful solutions instead of war. The world accepted this concept gladly.

But another new concept of dangerous warfare was nonchalantly accepted by the world - the Intifada. Instead of civilized negotiations - constant, nerve-racking attacks with stones, rocks, bullets and bombs became the norm and are tolerated. There are no rules for this war ordained in Geneve, like for other kinds of war. Here everything is permitted. And every report keeps score like a competition in matters of sport. How many were killed, who was killed, how many injured and even the age of the victim. Like Monday morning quarterbacks, blame is given, credit taken, and it is speculated whose' fault was this homerun or that killing. But it is never mentioned, that no one, not even a single one, no Jew, no Arab, no man, no child had to lose its life. It did not ever had to start and can be stopped immediately. But the world and interestingly even Israel takes this kind of war as acceptable. A prolonged endless attack, which, like a long disease, has to lead to death. Death to people, to a country and to honesty.

No normal country would tolerate such constant violent attacks on its citizens. But it is expected from Israel. If Israel would give warning and if needed - follow up with all its might, the Intifada would stop and a modus for a peaceful solution found. The starting price may be terrible, but on the long run, it would cost much less.

For every action a goal has to be defined and the possible consequences evaluated. For Israel, the goal is since ever, the wish to live peacefully in this tiny speck of land. The Arabs have another goal. Let us now remember the declared Arab goals and think about the consequences if the Palestinians should reach their intent? Let's imagine, what will happen to Israel and to the Jews after an Arab victory? Not too many think about this possibility. It is time to take such an event into account.

Israel tried to accommodate the Arabs. They even tried to explain to them the benefits they could have, from peace with Israel. It is time to let the Arabs find out for themselves, how good their benefits would be. And it could be great for both people. So far they created plenty of misery for their own people. Israel should care for its own safety in unity and strength and with God's help it will survive.
